Talking Tots: Chatterbox Challenge Unique Triathlon

As London is getting ready for Summer 2012 , Talking Tots will be gearing up for our very own unique Triathlon from Feb 1-7, 2012. More than 5,000 of our Talking Tots pre-schoolers in 150 centres across the UK are poised and ready to take on the three events all in aid of I CAN’s Chatterbox Challenge.

The Talking Tots Triathlon reinforces the ethos of developing children’s communication skills through activity. Children learn best when engaged in something they enjoy, where skills include the physical aspects as well as listening, taking turns and verbalising the action.

Our unique Triathlon will see children join in a different interpretation of a shot putt event, in a Ready, Steady, Go, beanbag throw; a “track” event of running, jumping and hopping; and a rowing event with ribbons as they take to the stream with the action song, ‘Row, Row, Row your boat’ with parent/carer. It promises to be a fun-filled active session that will have children listening, following instructions while getting active.

We are going to have so much fun in our version of the Triathlon. Our children are looking forward to it, and so are our parents, all of whom will be encouraging their children on!

Developing children’s communication skills from a young age will ensure children have an enjoyable childhood, because they are able to socialise with others, communicate confidently, make friends, and have that important head start with pre-literacy skills for when they start formal education. Parents sometimes under-estimate the power of play and activity in developing communication skills, so our Triathlon will hopefully show parents how easy it is to make children’s learning exciting and fun.

And all this while raising money for I CAN, a charity close to our hearts that helps children who struggle with speech, language and communication skills.
