The UK’s leading nanny agency Enchanted Childcare Ltd has partnered with The Lily Foundation to help raise valuable funds to support research into Mitochondrial Disease

The UK’s leading nanny agency Enchanted Childcare Ltd has partnered with The Lily Foundation to help raise valuable funds to support research into Mitochondrial Disease. Enchanted Childcare Ltd has developed a co-branded Childcare First Aid & Burns Kit, with The Lily Foundation receiving £1 for each kit sold.
The ‘Lily’ Childcare First Aid & Burns Kit contains all the required medical contents plus unique items such as burn blots, instant ice pack, stick-on thermometers and eye and wound washes for typical childhood accidents and emergencies. The kits, which will also help spread the word about mitochondrial disease, are available from the Enchanted First Aid website for £15.99.
Mitochondrial Disease is a rare metabolic disorder that can be life threatening for children. It is misunderstood and under-researched and often not diagnosed for years. It is a disorder that affects each cell’s ability to produce energy. Mitochondria, present in each human cell, are responsible for converting food into energy. With failing mitochondria, these cells die. The commonest parts of the body affected are those that have the highest energy demands; brain, muscle, liver, heart and kidney. Unfortunately there is no cure for Mitochondrial Disease at present.
The Lily Foundation is the main UK charity funding research into Mitochondrial Disease at the Evelina Children’s Hospital, part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust, and more recently at Great Ormond Street Hospital and Newcastle University. It also helps fund training for specialist NHS staff and supports Ronald Macdonald Houses, which provide a homely environment for families to remain near children who are ill in hospital.
Says Lily Foundation’s founder Liz Curtis: “I am delighted that Enchanted Childcare has chosen such a constructive way to help us raise funds. As parents ourselves, we are all believers that every household should have a well stocked first aid kit and parents and carers should know what to do in an emergency, so a scheme that combines this with raising money to support the vital work we do is doubly pleasing.”
Liz Curtis set up and named the charity after her daughter Lily, who sadly died at eight months old from Mitochondrial Disease in April 2007. Had she died before being diagnosed with Mitochondrial Disease, her death may have been misdiagnosed as cot death.
Enchanted Childcare owner Justine Cutmore comments “Enchanted Childcare is delighted to be supporting such a worthy charity. We hope our ‘Lily’ First Aid Kit will not only raise awareness and valuable funds for The Lily Foundation but also prove to be a vital purchase for all childcarers and parents and put their mind at ease that they are fully prepared for any minor accidents or emergencies involving a child.”
Enchanted Childcare Ltd also offers First Aid Paediatric Training courses with courses starting in West Kent, East Surrey and Essex and rolling out nationally in 2012. They also offer other first aid products through their First Aid Shop found at www.enchantedfirstaid.co.uk
